Connecting with your Power Animal

Connecting with your Power Animal

Meditating to discover your power animal is a spiritual journey of self-discovery, often rooted in shamanic traditions. How can you connect with your power animal?

Preparation: Setting the Space

Choose a calm, comfortable, warm spot where you won’t be disturbed. Dim the lights, light candles, burn incense, or play soft drumming or nature sounds to help you enter a meditative state.

The Meditation Process

State your purpose clearly, such as “I seek to connect with my power animal. May it reveal itself to me in its true form.”

Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes. Take deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. With each breath, release tension and focus on the rhythm of your breathing.

Visualise yourself on a journey. Imagine yourself walking into a beautiful natural setting (a forest, a desert, a mountain, or near water). Envision the colours, sounds, and textures of this place. This is your sacred space and you can return here anytime to meditate or connect.

Picture a pathway leading deeper into this landscape—perhaps a cave, a riverbank, or a forest trail. Follow it with curiosity and trust. Picture yourself relaxed in this secluded cave or area of your choice and invite your power animal to reveal itself.

Pay attention to any animals you see or sense. One might approach you, stand out, or communicate with you in a unique way. Trust your intuition; even if the encounter seems unexpected, accept the animal that appears. Communicate with the animal. Ask questions such as “What wisdom or guidance do you have for me?” or  “How can I honour our connection?.” Observe the animal’s behaviour, appearance, and surroundings. These may hold symbolic meanings. Before leaving the meditation, thank your power animal for its presence and guidance.

After the Meditation

Write down any images, feelings, or messages you received during the meditation. Look for Signs - you may start noticing your power animal in dreams, books, adverts, or real life. These are affirmations of your connection. Spend time learning about the animal’s traits, behaviours, and symbolic meanings. Meditate regularly to deepen your bond.

visualisation is not always easy and can take practice. Don’t be disheartened if your power animal may not appear immediately. Trust that the right one will come when the time is right. If self-guided meditation feels difficult, you can use guided meditations or drumming tracks designed for shamanic journeys.

Through this process, you can discover the animal spirit that resonates with your soul and guides your life’s journey.
